In his resignation letter Dr Hassan, who has been working in the position of the Special Advisor to the President since 11 November 2008, said that in his capacity as the special advisor to the President he had worked hard to make President Nasheed's administration a successful one. However, Dr Hassan's resignation letter said that proper arrangements to facilitate communication between a special advisor and the president had still not been made.
The lack of such arrangements had led to the increase of instances where the advisor's counsel directly challenged the decisions that were being made or had already been made, causing difficulties for both the President and Dr Hassan himself, the letter said.
"So from this day on, I have resigned from my position as the Special Advisor to the President," Dr Hassan's letter stated. It's worth noting that Dr Hassan's resignation comes at the end of the 100th day since President Mohamed Nasheed was sworn in as President of Maldives.
