Deputy Leader of the pro-government Dhivehi Rayytihunge Party (DRP) Ibrahim Shareef has accused former President Mohamed Nasheed of having planned to murder members of the 'December 23' coalition.
At a press held by the coalition at the Nalahiya Hotel, Shareef accused Nasheed of organizing people to murder them, and that the only obstacle in Nasheed’s way was the Police which was why they were ordered to fall back on February 6 at the Artificial Beach.
“President Nasheed’s evil and dangerous plan has now been revealed to the people. I want to note that during this chance. I’ve said this because Nasheed did plan to murder the members of the December 23 coalition. He hired people to carry out the murder and then ordered the Police to fall back,” Shareef claimed.
Shareef further claimed that following the failure of his first plan Nasheed then planned to create conflict between the Police and the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) and orchestrate clashes and bloodshed on both sides, and with the bloodshed to allow foreign countries to meddle in our internal affairs.
To achieve this Nasheed had plotted and made several plans and had even invited foreign parties to the country,” he alleged.
Further detailing his accusations Shareef said that Nasheed had sent armed hooligans from the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) camp to murder the members of the coalition on February 6.
While the coalition press conference was held yesterday, members of former President Nasheed’s government had also issued a report yesterday on the events of February 7.
The report alleges that the December 23 coalition and the opposition had overthrown Nasheed in a ‘coup’.
