Jumhooree Party (JP) has stated that more parliament members will join the party soon.

In a ceremony held after the submission of 1,000 new JP membership forms to the Elections Commission (EC), JP Registrar General Mohamed ‘Inthi’ Imthiyaz said that many MPs will sign for JP on Saturday.

“In July, JP will hold a huge ceremony at the artificial beach like never before in the history of Maldives” Inthi said.

Four parliament members already represent which include JP leader and Maamigili constituency MP Gasim Ibrahim, Kurendhoo constituency MP Ahmed Moosa, Kaashidhoo constituency MP Abdulla Jabir and Feydhoo constituency MP Alhan Fahmy who recently crossed to JP from opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP).

Inthi said that the people who join the party on Saturday would include many from the film industry as well. Inthi said that a lot of people who represent other parties have decided to join JP during the ceremony.

He said that JP will increase its members within the Male region which previously had Dhivehi Rayyithunge Party (DRP) and Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) support.

JP now has about 6000 members. Yet the party is trying to increase the number to 30,000 before the upcoming presidential elections.

Inthi said that the biggest setback to increase the amount of their members is due to the slow processing speed of membership from the Elections Commission. He added that apart from the 1,000 forms submitted today, 500 forms previously submitted had not been processed yet.
