Rumors are rife that pro-government Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) Parliamentary group's deputy leader and Gemanafushi constituency MP Ilham Ahmed has quit PPM.
It is known that Ilham had sent a ‘confidential’ letter to PPM’s interim president and former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom yesterday. However, the details of the letter are yet to be divulged to the media by either PPM or Ilham. So far Ilham has been unreachable for comment.
Amid the rumors, Ilham is set to contest for the president of the Football Association of Maldives (FAM) next Wednesday. The other candidates include current FAM president and Henveiru-mid constituency MP Ali Azim and Nilandhoo constituency MP Abdul Muhusin.
The rumors of Ilham’s resignation from PPM have surfaced at a time when he had not been actively involved in the party’s activities off late.
Some claim that Ilham is set to crossover to Jumhoory Party (JP).
