Two under 18 year old children have been sentenced by the Raa Atoll Ungoofaaru Magistrate Court for more than three years in jail for stealing a 25horsepower outboard engine from a docked dingy.
The two children had been sentenced to three years, five months and 10 days in jail last Tuesday.
Police revealed that as the two children were under 18 and was still in school, after discussions with relevant authorities the jail sentence has been changed to house arrest.
To that end, the verdict urged the people who had assumed responsibility of the children to respect the agreement made in court.
Police also said that the case against two children from Ungoofaaru as the lead suspects in a similar offence in Raa Atoll Hulhudhuhfaaru had been forwarded for prosecution on January 31.
