Maldives Skipper Ali "Dhangandey" Ashfaq will miss Thursday's AFC Challenge cup match against Turkmenistan, through suspension.
Ashfaq is suspended for the match as he had collected two yellow cards during the qualifying matches held last year in Male.
“I was aware about Ashfaq’s suspension today. This will be a huge problem for us. But the team has played well without him recently when he was injured,” Maldives National team coach Istvan Urbanyi said today in an interview with Haveeru.
Absence of Ashfaq who played a vital role in qualifying Maldives will be a huge blow for the island nation.
Urubanyi did not reveal a replacement for the suspended Ashfaq, who is arguably the greatest footballer ever to represent the Maldives.
But it is believed that young star Hassan Adhuham will replace him in the forth coming match.
The 2012 AFC Challenge Cup will be the fourth edition of the tournament which will take place in Nepal from 8–19 March 2012.
The winners will qualify for the 2015 AFC Asian Cup. Maldives, Turkmenistan, Palestine and Nepal are in Group A while India, North Korea, Philippines and Tajikistan are in group B.
